Leadership
Troop 1772 is a boy-run troop and operates by the patrol method. The Patrol Leaders Council, with oversight from the Scoutmasters and Troop Committee, plan and implement the troop’s activities, including our weekly troop meetings, campouts, and our annual summer camp. Our adult leaders are trained in Scouting policies, training skills, and safety; appropriate to or exceeding the requirements for their positions and for our outings.
Parent Participation
Troop 1772 enjoys strong parental participation. In addition to adult leadership and Troop Committee positions, we have many parents who help with special projects. Our Troop has over a dozen in-house Merit Badge Counselors offering more than 40 Eagle & Elective Merit Badges.
Fundraising
Boy Scout Troop 1772 has one major fund-raiser each year – a BBQ Cookout where the troop prepares thousands of pounds of brisket, whole chickens, and cobblers. A majority of the revenue is put directly in the scouts account to fund summer camps and dues.
In addition to the BBQ Cookout, scouts are able to sell Scout Fair tickets and popcorn. 100% of the proceeds go directly to the individual Scout account.
Advancement
One distinctive feature of Troop 1772 is advancement. While advancement occurs in all troops, we have developed a program that allows each individual scout to advance at his own pace. This can be a fast or as slow as the scout desires. Many Troops in The Woodlands intentional try to slow down advancement. This often causes highly motivated scouts to lose interest. By allowing each scout to develop at their own rate, we find that retention is much higher and scouts are much happier with the program.

Our Troop
Boy Scout Troop 1772 in The Woodlands, was chartered in 1987 and has been sponsored by the Woodlands Community Presbyterian Church for 25 years.
Our troop has about 75 scouts and is very active. We have at least one outing every month all year round and attend one or more summer camps. Our Scouts enjoy outdoor activities like camping, hiking and fishing. On every campout we encourage and challenge ourselves with gourmet cooking. Car camping almost always brings out Dutch Ovens. In addition to camaraderie and leadership, the boys learn and practice outdoor skills like camping, cooking, and orienteering on these trips. Most of our outings are in within an hour or two of The Woodlands.
Our youth leaders plan varied activities and destinations each year. In addition to camping we also go Canoeing and kayaking, Hiking and Backpacking, Fishing, Rock Climbing, Biking, Geocaching and High Adventure type outings like Rifle & Shotgun Shooting.
On these campouts, we cook in patrols. Our troop members have a wide range of equipment including tents, stoves, and other cooking gear for our troop and patrols.
Troop Culture
As a resident of The Woodlands, you are blessed with a wealth of troops. Each of those troops offers it’s own distinctive features. Some focus upon first aid, climbing, kayaking, etc. At 1772, we strive to be a family oriented program. Our troop encourages your entire family to participate in the Scouting Adventure. Moms and dads, male and female siblings are welcome to join in our weekend activities at any time. We love to see those moms kicking back in a camp chair while their son cooks them a sunrise breakfast.
Summer Camp Trips
Troop 1772 attends summer camp every year. This year 2012, we are attending at Sid Richardson right here in Texas. A mini High Adventure is planned for 13yr olds at Chisholm Trail Adventure in the Longhorn Council.

Rank of Eagle Scout
Troop 1772 is proud that 47 of its members have reached the rank of Eagle since its inception. Our Scoutmaster and Assistants are devoted to counseling our Life Scouts as they work toward their Eagle Scout rank. Our troop also has a Life to Eagle Committee to help Life Scouts reach this highest rank attainable within the scouting program.
Meetings
Our troop meetings are held on Monday nights, 7:00 to 8:15 p.m. at The Woodlands Community Presbyterian Church located just behind the Panther Creek Shopping Center.
